Hair transplantation is the most effective method of providing a solution to the problem of people who have permanently lost their hair. This method allows people to regain their hair permanently, but the period after hair transplantation is also very important for this. There are some hair care procedures that should be done after hair transplantation. Performing these hair care procedures at the right time directly affects the success of hair transplantation. Therefore, hair care should be carried out according to the advice given by the doctor in a specific plan and not randomly.

The care to be performed after hair transplantation and details about these are given below.

Washing the Hair

After the hair transplantation, the first washing is done by a specialist physician in the clinic. You can do the next washing sessions. The first wash should be done after 36-48 hours after the hair transplantation. You should also do this as described by the doctor, not as an ordinary hair wash. It is very important that you complete this procedure without pressing on your scalp and transplanted grafts. You can repeat this process every day after the first wash. After the first 15 washings, the blood stains and scabs on your scalp will completely fall out.

In the washings for the first 15 days, no pressure should be applied to the scalp. A very light massage can be done. At the end of 15 days, if allowed by your doctor, you can start to wash your scalp with light pressure.

Shaving

In order to make hair transplantation easier and more successful, the hair is shaved just before the transplantation session and then the hair follicles are taken. When and how the shaving is done after the transplantation is extremely important. Because shaving at the wrong time or with the wrong tool may cause damage to the transplanted hair.

When and how to shave after hair transplantation varies according to the transplanted and donor area. The donor area starts to heal 3 days after hair transplantation and can be shaved with scissors 1 week after the operation. Waiting for longer periods is important to protect the scalp from the sun.

People who have hair transplantation can trim this area with scissors after 1 week or 10 days. For the transplanted area, it is appropriate to wait for at least 2 months for shaving. Thus, no root loss will occur and the success rate of the process will be higher.

  • Shaving in the 1st Month After Hair Transplantation

Immediately after hair transplantation, patients should take care of themselves; they shouldn’t have sexual intercourse and force themselves. During this period, any shaving is not recommended in the region where hair transplantation is performed. But if patients are very persistent, this area can be trimmed with scissors.

  • Shaving in the 2nd Month After Hair Transplantation

In the second month after hair transplantation, the newly grown hair is usually healthy and strong so that it can be shaved with scissors. The shaver should never be used during this period. Otherwise the hair follicles may be damaged. The person should be very careful while using the scissors and shouldn’t move too near to the hair roots. It is much more convenient to shorten the hair from the tips.

  • Shaving in the 3rd Month After Hair Transplantation

In this period, the hair has a stronger structure. The shaver may therefore be used. However, the hair must be at least 3 mm long after shaving. The shaver may be used with the head number 1 or 2. Number 0 should not be preferred. Such a choice may result in amputation and infection of the newly healed scalp.

  • Shaving in the 6th Month After Hair Transplantation

At the end of 6 months, the hair becomes natural and can be shaved with a razor. Although people think that shaving with razor makes the hair denser, there is no scientific data on it.

This is the general procedure after hair transplantation for shaving, but it is very important that patients still take advice from their doctor. In addition, the items to be used for shaving must be clean and hygienic. Shaving should not be performed until you are sure that this condition is met.
