One of the most common questions in hair transplantation is the difference between the DHI and FUE techniques. Both methods are based on the principle of follicular unit transplantation; the key difference lies in the way the grafts are placed into the recipient area.
What is the key difference?
In FUE, the channels are opened beforehand and the grafts are placed into these channels. In DHI, channel opening and placement are carried out in a single step using special implanter pens. This can offer different advantages, especially in areas where density and angle control are important.
Which one for which situation?
The points below provide a general framework; the final decision is always made through a personal analysis:
- If a delicate front hairline and controlled density are the goal, DHI may be considered.
- If a large area and high graft capacity are needed, FUE may stand out.
- If unshaven/partially shaven planning is on the agenda, DHI may be suitable.
Is there a difference in terms of healing?
The healing process is largely similar in both techniques and depends on individual factors. Stages such as shock shedding, the initial growth, and the emergence of the final result are seen in both methods.
